The recovery arena needs more than just a short lived quick fix. For the oppressed, the choice is fairly simple but very significant; either they meditate or eventually they will medicate. I'm pleased to report that our recent seminar for local pastors and recovery leaders turned out to be an absolute blessing. What an awesome experience it was to meet and talk to so many brothers and sisters with such a passion to help the oppressed find true freedom in Christ. At a time when addictive behaviors are at an all-time high, and the recovery arena as a whole overflowing with options upon options, there is still only One that offers and delivers true freedom in the here and now and for eternity. All so-called alcoholics and addicts have spiritual problems as well as mind problems, problems with thinking correctly. This does not mean they need to be sent to County Mental Health. Most, if not all need spiritual maturity and a renewing (a cleansing) of the mind. We believe there is such a great need for God's people to properly understand this arena and be equipped to properly serve within it.
A big thanks to those that participated. We look forward to your feedback as we put together our next event.

He Came to Set the Captives Free
by Dr. Robert T. Tucker
Understand the real battle and learn how to win it!
The “freedom from prison” the Bible talks about doesn’t necessarily mean a “California Department of Corrections” type prison with block walls, bars, and barbed wire fences. Although God can, and does at times, set prisoners free from behind those walls, in the churches and in program, it is not uncommon to see Him set people free from the things that send them to prison. I’m talking about the prison we find ourselves in within ourselves. Our flesh, holding our minds captive to sin, is a battle constantly raging within the mind for control of the body. If Satan can gain control of the mind, he will be the one that controls the body (your actions).

"Christian's" Story
Have you ever felt alone? Abandoned? Worthless? Living with no motivation? It's something that i'm sure that the majority of people today struggle with. Finding means to subdue those feelings, thoughts, and emotions can be strenuous. Physically, mentally, and spiritually exhausting. I resorted to drugs, alcohol, women, gluttony, isolation, etc. For 11 years addiction ran my life. Or should I say slowed my life and was killing me, literally. I was pronounced basically dead from an overdose at the age of 18, and that STILL didn't stop me from using. It actually got worse after that. You would think for the normal, that it would be a red flag. Waking up in a hospital bed not knowing how you got there. Well it wasn't. There was still something terribly wrong and missing in my life.

Words of Life
If you love me, you will obey what I command. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever— the Spirit of truth.
The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.
I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.
Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him.”

A Closing Thought
Have you ever comprehended that the God who created the entire universe in six days loves you and has a plan for your life? He isn't impersonal. He's intimately involved in your life if you are willing to turn to Him. What are you stuck on? A substance? A family member's addiction? Are you struggling with codependence? God loves you. He made you for a reason, and wants you to experience the fullness of all He designed you to be. John 10:10 says "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come so that they may have life, and may have it abundantly". It's Satan who devises to bring us pain and suffering. It's God who desires to make broken pieces whole in our life.
At New Life Spirit Recovery, we are able to see first-hand the power of Jesus Christ transforming lives. It's not a program, it's not a counselor, it's a Person. Do you know Him?
